Beginning with Baptism Dear Friend, Sunshine sparkled on the Jordan River. It was a great day for me, and I had been looking forward to it for a long time. My cousin John was baptizing people in the river. People had been coming to him and listening to him preach. Some people were beginning to think that he was the Messiah they were waiting for. John told them that he was not, but that one more powerful than he was coming soon. Little did he know that this would be the day! After I had been baptized, and was praying, the sky burst open. The Holy Spirit came down upon me. My Father’s voice thundered, “You are my own dear Son, and I am pleased with you” (Luke 3:22). You can imagine John’s reaction! Our eyes met, and I knew that he understood. I was the one he had told people about, the one who would “baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” This was the beginning of my mission—a mission that would lead me to many places and many people. The Holy Spirit would be my guide. My trust was to be completely in my Father, and I would stop at nothing to do his will. I had come to save all people and lead them safely to my Father. Your friend, Jesus
Quiet place Think about it. Your baptism was amazing too. You were baptized in the name of the Trinity—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. You, too, were given a mission that you will carry out as you go through life. Jesus will be with you today and every day! You are a special child of the Father!
