Deep Sea Miracle

Dear Friend,

The lakeshore was always a special place for my followers and me—especially Peter, Andrew, James, and John. Before I met them, these four had been professional fishermen.

One day as I was preaching, I got into Simon Peter’s boat. When I had finished preaching to the crowd on the shore, I said to Peter, “Row the boat out into the deep water and let your nets down to catch some fish” (Luke 5:4). Now, Peter and the others had not caught even a minnow all night long! To try again, in broad daylight, sounded like a pretty dumb idea to him. But deep in his heart, Peter trusted me. (He had heard me preach, after all, and I had cured his mother-in-law’s fever.) So out into the deep we went. The nets were let down. Suddenly, fish began pouring into them. Peter and the others hauled the nets in and almost capsized the boat! Peter saw that it was a miracle. He knelt before me, and in his eyes I saw a humble, grateful act of love. I told him, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you will bring in people instead of fish” (Luke 5:10).

There are times I ask you, too, to go out “into the deep water.” Trust me. I will be with you. Like Peter, you will find that I never let anyone down.

Your friend,

Jesus

Quiet place

In your quiet place open your heart to Jesus. Tell him about the “deep water” in your life right now. Maybe there is something difficult or new that you are afraid of. Ask Jesus to give you the strength you need. Tell him that you trust that he will not let you down!
