Dear My Friend, I get in trouble for talking too much in school. My buddy—actually my BEST friend—sits next to me. We get our names on the board a lot. I’m not trying to get into trouble. It just happens. What should I do? In trouble—AGAIN Even though it’s nice to have your best bud in class with you, you’re finding out it can also create a problem. Best buds are extra special! We can share almost anything with them. But if you’re constantly talking during class, you’re probably missing a great deal of instruction. Not only does it prevent you from hearing what the teacher is saying (like directions for homework), or what your classmates are saying (during class discussions), but it can distract others, too. And that’s not fair to them. An easy solution to your dilemma is to talk with your buddy. Tell him you don’t want to get into trouble, so you’re going to save your “talking” for recess and lunch. If that doesn’t work, ask your teacher to move your seat (letting your friend know first). Not only will it help you stay out of trouble, it’ll make your teacher’s job easier, too. Plus it’ll eliminate one of the distractions that keeps you and your classmates from doing what you’re supposed to be doing— learning! Good luck! Home Copyright © 1999-2007, Daughters of St. Paul.
