Dear My Friend, I traded CDs with a kid in my class. But now I want mine back. His CD is scratched and mine isn’t. He says, “No trade-backs. A deal’s a deal!” I say if he were a true friend he’d trade back. What do you think? Signed, You’re right. A true friend would willingly “trade back.” It sounds like the two of you have different definitions for a “fair trade.” (Actually, this situation shows the main reason why we have rules and laws.) So, the next time you’re thinking about trading, make sure you check out the item first. Make sure the item is something you really want BEFORE you trade. You might even want to establish a “trade-back period” (a period of two or three days after the trade when either of you can trade back) just in case either of you changes your mind. If the two of you can’t agree on the terms, then don’t trade. Here’s another option: Swap CDs (or other items) for a couple of hours, then swap back. You might find that sharing is more fun than trading.
