Beauty and the Beast A long time ago there lived a selfish prince who had everything he desired. One day an ugly woman came to his door asking for shelter. In return she promised to give him a rose. The prince refused. She returned again and asked. Each time he refused. The ugly woman then revealed herself. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Stunned by her beauty, the prince asked for forgiveness. Instead, she cast a spell on his castle and everyone in it, because he had been so selfish. She turned the prince into a horrible-looking beast, and told him that unless he learned to love and to be loved by the time he was 21 years old, he would remain a miserable beast forever. One day the father of a beautiful girl, whose name is Belle, sets out for a fair to present one of his inventions. He becomes lost in the woods and happens to come upon the enchanted castle where the Beast lives. The Beast locks him in his dungeon for trespassing. Belle finds her father and promises the Beast that she will live in the castle forever if he frees her father. Belle is afraid of the beast who is very scary looking, has a terrible temper and is always yelling. The Beast wants Belle to love him so that he will be free of the curse, but he doesn’t really know how to love. The story shows how both characters learn what it means to be truly loving. .
