Children of Heaven Children of Heaven is about Ali and his little sister, Zahra, who have only one pair of shoes each for school. When Ali accidentally loses Zahra’s shoes, he shares his. Ali loves his sister and feels bad about the shoes. When Ali finds out that third prize in a special race is a new pair of sneakers, he runs in the race. He hopes to win the shoes so he can give them to Zahra. “I really liked how Ali always cared about his sister and always tried his best to make her happy in any way and never thought about himself.” “I really liked when the race began because Ali really wanted the shoes for his sister and he tries to come in third.” “I believe Ali and Zahra should have told their parents about the lost shoes because kids shouldn’t hide anything from their parents. Maybe if they would have told their parents, they could have solved the problem easier and faster.” “The movie Children of Heaven is really about the love for others and how far someone would go for the love of others and also how we should appreciate what we have.” “I really liked when Zahra was helping her mother a lot because her mother was ill.” To do before the movie: Ali and Zahra are from Iran. Find Iran on a globe or map of the world. Then, look on the internet and find out some things about the country and the children in the country. Talk about why shoes are important to you. To do after the movie: What was it like hearing the language of Ali and Zahra and reading the translation in the subtitles? How would it have been different if the dialogue was dubbed in English (recorded over by other voices)? Talk about the love between Ali and Zahra and how you can love each other better in your own family. Pray in thanksgiving to God for what you have and for your family.
