The Miracle Maker

The Miracle Maker is based on the gospel stories of Jesus. It is a fictionalized story of the last three years of Jesus’ life. This wonderful story is told through the eyes of the daughter of Jairus. Her name is Tamar, and Jesus cured her when she got sick. During his public life, Jesus taught people about the love of God. He cured the sick and worked miracles to help them. At the end of his life, Jesus died on Good Friday and was buried. On Easter Sunday Jesus rose from the dead.

“I liked the part about the Last Supper because Jesus changed the bread into his Body and the wine into his Blood to show us that he loved us.”

—Angela M., age 8

“I liked the humor in the movie. I learned that the disciples joked, too, instead of always being serious.”

—James M., age 9

“Families can learn how to love their neighbor from watching The Miracle Worker.”

—Natalie M., age 11

“I wish they didn’t use claymation because I don’t like how it makes the characters look.”

—Angela M., age 8

To do before the movie:

What is your favorite Bible story? Why do you like it?

To do after the movie:

Choose your favorite scene from the movie.—Dress up and act it out, or—Use some clay to make one of the characters then make a costume for it.

To fictionalize a story means to take a true story and make parts of it imaginary. Pretend that you were a friend of Tamar’s in the movie. What would you have talked about with her after Jesus cured her?
