Toy Story

Toy Story is about what toys do when no people are around. When Buzz Lightyear the Space Ranger arrives, Woody the Cowboy thinks Buzz is trying to take his place as Andy’s favorite toy. They get in a fight and end up outside. They learn to work together to get back to Andy’s room.

“Woody was afraid that Andy would like Buzz more than him. But he learns you can always have room for new and different friends. It takes patience to get to know one another.”

—Victoria F., age 11

“I liked that the film was animation because it is colorful and anything can happen. I like to see the creativity that the artists use in coming up with for the characters.”

—Kristina M., age 10

“The picture on the video made me want to know why there was a spaceman and a cowboy flying and laughing on the cover.”

—Kevin B., age 11

“I learned that teamwork is the way to go and not be jealous of someone.”

—Keila L., age 11

“My favorite scene in the movie is when all the toys have a town meeting. I got to see all the funny things the toys could do. The movie showed me that you don’t get very far with fighting, but you can get along and be friends.”

—Roberto C., age 10

To do before the movie:

Look up “computer animation” on the internet. Talk with your family about how animated movies are made. (For one explanation, go to www.pixar.com/howwedoit/index.html.)

Talk about why people fight to solve their problems instead of trying to work things out.

To do after the movie:

Talk about how the movie made you feel and why all the toys were so worried at birthdays and at Christmas.

Play with your toys with your brothers, sisters, or friends. Name the toys and have them act out your favorite scene in Toy Story.
