Saint Crispino of Viterbo

Crispino was born on November 13, 1668 near Rome. As a young man, he worked as a shoemaker. Later he joined a Capuchin monastery. There he learned how to pray and give his whole life to God. He learned there that living a quiet, unimportant life helps one to concentrate on really important things like listening to God’s voice and reading his Word. He worked in the kitchen and in the garden. Crispino also helped in the place where the sick brothers lived, called the infirmary. What was so great about him? Even though he wasn’t often in the spotlight, and did many jobs that could be tiring or even boring, Crispino worked with a loving and prayerful heart. Now that is a challenge for all of us! St. Crispino lived a very holy life in the monastery and after forty years of prayer and work, died in 1750, at the age of 81.

My Pledge:

Dear Jesus, this month I want to do one of my most boring chores with love so I can help others.

Your Turn:

How do you help out at home? Is there a job you especially avoid, or enjoy complaining about? Take the challenge of St. Crispino and try smiling the next time you’re faced with it!
