Saint Faustina Kowalska
St. Faustina was born on August 25, 1905, in Poland. When she was 15, she became a religious sister. She suffered greatly from asthma and a disease called consumption. She wanted all people to know about Jesus’ great love and mercy. Her spiritual director asked her to keep a diary of her experiences in convent life and of her wonderful relationship with Jesus. Jesus sometimes spoke to her and taught her about his great love for humanity and his desire to be merciful and forgive us. Once he told her: "Do not fear anything. I am always with you." Jesus asked St. Faustina to have an artist paint a picture of him to remind us of God’s compassion. Today that picture is known as the picture of Divine Mercy. St. Faustina spent much time in prayer because she loved Jesus so much. Even though she was sick most of her life, she tried her best to do little jobs with great love. St. Faustina died on October 5, 1938. Your Turn Even though Jesus talked freely to St. Faustina, she didn’t become stuck-up or feel superior to others. Instead, she was humble and compassionate to everyone. You can learn to have compassion with your own family members and friends. The next time you run into someone who’s having a bad day, or who might even be giving you a hard time, stop and try to see things from that person’s angle—and say a little prayer for him or her, too! Prayer O Jesus, help me to be kind to other kids who are sad or suffering in
any way. Help me to trust in your love for me when I’m suffering,
too. Home Copyright © 1999-2007, Daughters of St. Paul. All Rights Reserved.
