Saint Leopold Mandic
St. Leopold was a small man—only four and a half feet tall. He experienced various physical handicaps. He did have a quick mind, however, and a heart filled with compassion. As a young man, he felt Jesus calling him to service as a priest. He became a Capuchin Franciscan. Because of a speech defect, Fr. Leopold was not able to preach well. So, for thirty years, his task was to hear confessions. He was gentle and understanding. He helped each person to open his or her heart to Jesus’ forgiveness. Some people even said he worked miracles! He had a great love for Jesus, and that love extended to everyone he met. St. Leopold’s love for the Blessed Mother Mary gave him great joy and trust. He encouraged everyone to love Mary as a Mother. St. Leopold died in 1942. My Pledge: Dear Jesus, I love you! Like St. Leopold, I want everyone to love you too. I want everyone to know your mercy and forgiveness in the sacrament of Reconciliation. Your Turn: Do you know any kids who are physically or mentally challenged? It is
good to be kind and helpful to these children. But try also to notice
how the light of Jesus shines through their lives and touches others. Home Copyright © 1999-2007, Daughters of St. Paul. All Rights Reserved.
