Blessed Padre Miguel
Pro
Miguel was born on January 13, 1891, in Guadalupe, Mexico. As a kid, he was full of laughter and liked to play practical jokes. Soon he felt Jesus calling him to be a priest. He never lost his love for fun and jokes. In 1910, a revolution took place in Mexico and many priests were hunted down and killed. Miguel Pro knew it was dangerous to be a priest, but he also knew the Catholic people needed priests. He could be arrested if the police discovered he was celebrating Mass, baptizing people and hearing confessions. Padre Pro used disguises and practical jokes to get around secretly from village after village. But he and his two brothers were finally caught and condemned to death. One of the men who had hunted Padre Pro down asked for forgiveness. Miguel put his hands on the man’s shoulders and told him, "You have not only my forgiveness but my thanks." Miguel believed that Jesus rewards in a special way those that lay down their life for their brothers and sisters. Your Turn Padre Pro lived his life bravely for others, and died for the Faith when he was only 36. Would you practice your Catholic faith even if it meant you might be killed? Prayer Jesus, Padre Pro’s story makes me want to find out what is so exciting
about knowing you. Fill my heart with your presence! Home Copyright © 1999-2007, Daughters of St. Paul. All Rights Reserved.
