Holy Spirit Mobile

This mobile reminds us of how Jesus’ disciples received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The Holy Spirit also comes to us in a special way at our Baptism and Confirmation. The gifts of the Holy Spirit help us to follow Jesus.

Here’s what you need:

  • Lightweight, white paper plate (at least nine inches wide), with a ribbed edge
  • One or two sheets of plain white paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Thread
  • Pencil
  • Markers or crayons
  • Tape

Here’s what you do:

  • Trace a dove (see picture) onto the white paper seven times. Cut them out and put them aside.
  • Cut off the ribbed edge of your plate. Starting at the outer edge, draw a spiral going into the center of the plate. Leave a space in the center for making a small hole. The lines of your spiral should be about a half an inch apart. Decorate the spiral.
  • Poke a hole through the center of your spiral. Tie a piece of thread through the hole and tape it to the spiral so you can hang it up when finished.
  • Write one gift of the Holy Spirit on each of the seven doves. The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are: Understanding, Reverence for God, Knowledge, Love for God, Courage, Right Judgment, and Wisdom.
  • Before gluing the doves, make sure you leave about one full circle free at the bottom so that the spiral can spin. Then glue doves onto spiral so that they are evenly spaced along the length of the spiral.
  • With the help of an adult, hang your mobile over a radiator or a heat vent and watch the gifts of the Holy Spirit descend! (The mobile shouldn’t touch the heat source.)
